Reflecting on her journey, Rybakina said, “I realized that those sports are better for me than maybe my character or whatever it is at that age of 17-18. I had to choose if I wanted to be professional or just go to college.” It wasn’t an easy decision, with her family intensely involved in the discussions. She added, “I was going to school every day. I know that some players, maybe when they’re juniors, they’ve already made their choice even earlier, but that wasn’t the case. And I finished playing junior events a little later than everybody else, but I was doing well.”
Her parents’ worries about potential injuries and the doubt of a sports career weighed heavily on the decision. She revealed, “I think that I was just being very honest with them.” She further added, “We made this decision based on my results, my passion for the sport, and at the end of the day, I’m really happy with that decision.”

Before tennis Rybakina did gymnastics and ice skating with her sister, but because of her height they said she could not be a professional. At the age of 6, Rybakina’s father took her to the tennis court. Her father encouraged her to play tennis, but the turning point happened when she left school. Worried about the financial overtones of turning pro, her father wanted her to go to college, and she had many offers from universities in America. However, the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation created an offer to support her financially, which led to her representing them in 2018.
Elena Rybakina has done her best work recently. She won the 2022 Wimbledon championship, raising her ranking to almost 150 spots in 12 months. She is now holding the No. 5 rank. The 20-year-old recorded five WTA titles and earned her first Grand Slam seeding at the 2020 Australian Open. She advanced to the quarterfinals of Wuhan, the quarterfinals of Linz, and the semifinals of Luxembourg to cap off her season. She achieved two WTA 1000 titles at the 2023 Indian Wells Open and the 2023 Italian Open.
