Emma Raducanu has received a wildcard for next month’s Miami Open and has also given a hint that she could first appear at the upcoming Indian Wells Open.
The 2021 US Open champion will make her third appearance at the Miami Open, having competed at the WTA 1000 event in 2022 and 2023. The 2024 Miami Open will begin on March 17 and conclude on March 31.
The tournament announced four of the players who had been given wildcards for the 2024 edition on Thursday, with former major champions Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki the other WTA stars to be confirmed.
Former world No 4 Kei Nishikori is the only ATP player to receive a wildcard at this stage, with the 2014 US Open runner-up set to make his latest comeback from injury, having not competed since August.
Raducanu required a wildcard for a direct entry into the main draw in Miami as her current ranking of 252nd in the world is not high enough. The Brit does hold a protected ranking of 103 after missing more than half of last year through injury.
In a post on her Instagram story, Raducanu shared an image of Los Angeles, California from a plane, suggesting she is expecting to compete at the event in the Californian desert.
Indian Wells are yet to announce which players will receive wildcards for the tournament, which will run from March 6-17, but Raducanu’s arrival indicates she has been informed she will be given one.
The former world No 10 returned from an eight-month absence in Auckland last month after undergoing surgeries on both her wrists and her ankle last year.
Raducanu holds a 3-4 record in 2024, having reached the second round at her first three events in Auckland, the Australian Open and in Abu Dhabi, before an opening round exit in Doha. She lost 6-0, 7-6(6) to world No 30 Anhelina Kalinina in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Qatar.
The Brit was handed wildcards for her appearances in Auckland, Abu Dhabi and Doha, while she used her protected ranking to enter the Australian Open.
