Playing in Switzerland could be decisive for the Serb to maintain the first position in the ATP ranking
Jannik Sinner could soon achieve a historic result for Italian tennis, becoming the new ATP No.1, the first in the history of Italian tennis. Even in the event of his absence at the Parisian Major, the 22-year-old would have a concrete chance of overtaking Novak Djokovic in the ATP ranking for the first time in his career. In the last few hours, however, the Serbian chmapioin has chosen to take part in the ATP 250 in Geneva, a tournament which will take place exactly one week before Roland Garros.
An unexpected choice – probably dictated by poor physical form – which could change, albeit minimally, the calculations for the next ATP No.1 race. In the event of a semi-final in Switzerland, the 24-time Slam champion would not necessarily need the final in Paris, but another semi-final would be enough to keep first place in the men’s ranking. Calculations which obviously should be remodeled in the event of Sinner’s presence in the most important event of the clay swing.
In the meantime, the wait is growing to know Jannik Sinner’s decision regarding participation at the Roland Garros. The Italian, as we know, has officially returned to training, after more than two weeks of total separation. Having returned to Monte-Carlo, after having undergone treatment for his hip at J-Medical in Turin, the Paris mission has now officially started. A mission that until a few days ago seemed unlikely to come true, but which now no longer seems so unattainable.
