Carlos Alcaraz impressed in Paris by winning his third Major
“For me, Carlos Alcaraz is better than Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at 21. The Big 3 were not that strong at his age. We are talking about a unique tennis player”. These words – spoken by the legend John McEnroe – were enough to reignite a debate that began at the end of 2022, when Alcaraz became the youngest number one in history thanks to the success obtained at the US Open.
The Spaniard is burning the stages and has won the third Slam of his career at Roland Garros, setting another incredible record: no one has in fact won at least one Major on all playing surfaces before turning 22.
Alcaraz himself expressed his point of view on the official ATP website with the constant comparisons with Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. The native of El Palmar explained that the Big 3 have had the ability and strength to express a very high level of play for many years.
“I’ve seen videos, but we’re talking about highlights and I can’t compare myself to how they were at my age. In the end, as I’ve always said, it doesn’t matter what I’ve won at this age.”

Carlos Alcaraz showed great mental strength in both the semifinal against Jannik Sinner and the final with Alexander Zverev. Although not consistently expressing his best tennis, Alcaraz found a way to win both matches and leave Paris with the Musketeers’ Cup so dreamed of since his first international tournament played right under the Eiffel Tower at the age of 12.
In a recent interview with L’Equipe, Mats Wilander praised the young Spaniard: “Carlos Alcaraz is a godsend for our sport,” Wilander remarked. “He can make tennis even more popular. He is only 21 years old and has proven that he does not need to play the best tennis to win, which is the sign of the greatest.”
