Andy Murray’s new back surgery puts his Wimbledon farewell at risk

The British tennis player was forced to retire against Jordan Thompson at the Queen’s Club Championships: now the goal is to try to get back on his feet for the farewell at the Championships

The 3-time Slam champion Andy Murray will have back surgery today in an attempt to remedy the injury suffered at the Queen’s Club Championships, but this constitutes a serious threat to the plans of the Scot who, for the finale of his dreams, would like to give his farewell to tennis at the Wimbledon Championships.

After the injury against Jordan Thompson, Murray underwent tests and was visited by several specialists in the field. the 37-year-old, who would like to play the last Wimbledon of his career, has chosen to undergo a new surgery, and then try to get back on his feet in view of the Championships.

“Andy will have back surgery on Saturday 22 June. We will know more after this has taken place and will update further as soon as possible,” read a statement from the Brit’s management.

Murray is expected to play singles and doubles (with his brother Jamie) at Wimbledon and then could play at the Paris Olympics. We remember that Andy wrote history, winning Olympic gold for two consecutive editions of the Games, in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, a milestone never achieved by anyone else in the history of the men’s tennis tournament. After withdrawing from the traditional Queen’s tournament in recent days, the British tennis player’s managers have made it known that the player will require surgery just over a week before the start of the Wimbledon tournament.

This surgery was carried out precisely to put the thirty-seven year old tennis player in a position to try to play Wimbledon one last time. At Queen’s, Murray withdrew with back problems, which would also affect his leg mobility.
