Iga Swiatek has been playing solid tennis on grass, extending her winning streak to 21 matches, but she doesn’t feel that she has to prove anything at Wimbledon.
The grass is not the Pole’s favorite surface. Even so, she is the world number one player on the WTA Tour, which obviously means she can play solid tennis on any surface.
You don’t become world number one without any reason, and her performances this year certainly proved that. With two wins at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Swiatek is up to 21 wins in a row, which is an amazing achievement.
At the moment, however, she’s not really stressed about how far she can go at the tournament. She’s not playing the event as if she has to prove something, even though some people believe that she does.
“I’m playing on a different surface, I have different challenges here and I’m focusing on them and not the statistics. I want to get better here, on grass, so that’s my main goal – I don’t feel like I need to prove anything because it’s a totally different story. I’m starting with a blank space and just going with it.”
