Kyrgios had one funny moment during his Wimbledon commentary on the BBC.
Nick Kyrgios humorously told Novak Djokovic that he “still does not like you” because he prevented him from winning Wimbledon two years ago but allowed that to happen last year when he met Carlos Alcaraz.
If you remember well, Kyrgios had his best-ever Grand Slam run exactly two years ago when he reached the Wimbledon final. In his first singles Slam final, Kyrgios played high-level tennis throughout the entire match and there wasn’t much separating him and Djokovic.
But Kyrgios’ outstanding display wasn’t enough day because Djokovic still somehow found a way to beat the Australian 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3) and win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title and his seventh Wimbledon.
Last year, Djokovic came inches away from tying Roger Federer’s all-time record of eight Wimbledon titles but fell just short in his bid after Alcaraz edged him out in the final 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-1 3-6 6-4.
“I still don’t like you Novak if you’re listening. You gave Carlos one, one year but you didn’t give me one. It is still one of the best matches I’ve watched. One of the only ones from start to finish,” Kyrgios said during his Wimbledon commentary for the BBC.
What Djokovic told Kyrgios after the 2022 Wimbledon final?
Moments after ruining Kyrgios’ dreams of becoming a Grand Slam champion at Wimbledon, Djokovic had some warm words for the 29-year-old Australian, telling him more deep Slam runs were in the cards for him.
“Congrats to you and your team for an amazing tournament, I wish you all the best man I really really respect you a lot. I think you are a phenomenal tennis player and athlete and amazing talent,” Djokovic told Kyrgios during the on-court trophy presentation at Wimbledon.
“You’ve been hearing all of that for many years but now you know everything is starting to come together for you. I’m sure we’re gonna see much of you in the later stages of Grand Slams.”
Unfortunately for Kyrgios, he hasn’t played much over the last two years but he is expected to return from wrist surgery next month.
