Jannik Sinner has been playing really well at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, and that’s one of the reasons why Boris Becker praised his consistency.
Becker was really successful at Wimbledon in his tennis career, and he certainly knows the event well. He’s been part of the BBC broadcasting team for a long time, so he’s gotten the chance to see the event from that perspective as well.
The German still follows the sport keenly even though he’s no longer part of the BBC team. In his capacity as tennis analyst, he saw Sinner in action in the past few days.
The German was ecstatic by his match against Matteo Berrettini and was certainly impressed with what he has been able to do in the matches after that. He praised his consistency, which is the Italian’s biggest strength in Becker’s eyes.
The World No. 1 is super consistent, and it’s one of the most difficult tasks in tennis. He’s yet to play a ‘bad match’ this year, as the former German player put it, and if he keeps that up in the coming week, he’ll win yet another trophy.
“I think Sinner is on the right track. He has been playing for months now at a very high level, and his greatest quality is consistency. If we consider the last period, he has not yet played a “bad match,” let’s touch wood.”
“On the one hand, you can’t always win, but on the other, he has always kept a very high level, more than any other player since the beginning of the year. This means that to beat him, you have to do even better, and that’s why this year he’s only lost a couple of matches.”
The Italian is one of the favorites for the grass-court major at SW19, especially with Carlos Alcaraz not playing his best and Novak Djokovic dealing with a knee problem.
