Swiatek reacts to Collins accusing her of being ‘insincere.’

Iga Swiatek responded to Danielle Collins’ brutally ripping her in a pretty classy way as the Pole didn’t want to get into a war of words with the American, instead simply acknowledging her good career and performance in their Paris Olympics match.

After Collins was forced to retire Swiatek their Olympics quarterfinal match while down by a double break in the third set, the ninth-ranked American stopped the current world No. 1 for a discussion that didn’t seem to be friendly.

Afterward, Collins very directly said that she felt Swiatek was faking to be sorry over the abdominal injury that forced her to retire the match.

“I told Iga she didn’t have to be insincere about my injury. There’s a lot that happens on camera, and there are a lot of people with a ton of charisma and come out and are one way on camera and another way in the locker room. And I just haven’t had the best experience, and I don’t really feel like anybody needs to be insincere. They can be the way that they are. I can accept that, and I don’t need the fakeness,” Collins said after the match.

While Collins was explaining some things to Swiatek, the five-time Grand Slam champion looked stunned and confused. After everyone got to know what was said to Swiatek, the 23-year-old Pole was asked to address it.

“I think it’s better to ask her. I would rather not get into these because that’s her last year on tour. I haven’t had a chance actually to tell her that, you know, she had a great journey and she really played well,” Swiatek said.

Even before the match finished, there were a few tense moments between Collins and Swiatek as the American wasn’t happy with the Pole’s pace and also with her taking a nine-minute bathroom break between the second and third sets.

Meanwhile, Swiatek plays Zheng Qinwen for a place in the Paris Olympics final.
