Manchester City have refused to sell one player this transfer window despite receiving eight offers worth up to £30m.
City have started the new Premier League season in impressive fashion as they look to go for an unprecedented fifth league title in succession, extending their own active record of four.
Pep Guardiola’s side have opened their account with 2-0 and 4-1 wins against Chelsea and Ipswich Town, putting them at the summit of the Premier League heading into matchday three.
In rather unusual fashion, City haven’t been particularly active in the transfer market over the summer only adding Brazilian winger Savinho and the returning Ilkay Gundogan to their first team.
Due to their lack of incomings as well as the sale of Julian Alvarez, it is no surprise that City are reluctant to sell this window, but they have been particularly adamant over one man staying at the Etihad.
According to The Athletic, City have turned down offers up to £30m for the 21-year-old.
It is claimed that Stuttgart, Feyenoord, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Lille, Lens, and Celtic, have all made approaches for the midfielder this summer.
Following Man City’s Community Shield victory in August, Guardiola explained why McAtee is going to be a crucial member of his squad.
“It is difficult to find players with a sense of goal in small spaces who attack the final third and McAtee has that quality,” Guardiola stated.
“That’s why I said to (director of football) Txiki (Begiristain) at the beginning of the season that I don’t want to loan him and I don’t want to sell him because I need his specific quality in small spaces. James has this ability.”
McAtee has spent the last two seasons on loan with Sheffield United, where he scored 14 goals and assisted eight times over 75 appearances for the Blades.
