Naomi Osaka has decided to make a big move after a rough last couple of months as the former world No. 1 is splitting with coach Wim Fissette
After welcoming her first kid last summer and starting to prepare for her post-pregnancy comeback, the four-time Grand Slam champion reunited with Fissette – the coach with whom she previously worked for two and a half years.
And since the 26-year-old was hoping to do major things in her return to tennis, she thought that the Belgian coach was the right guy for her since she won the 2020 US Open and 2021 Australian Open in their first stint.
But so far this year, Osaka is just 19-16 and hasn’t made it past the quarterfinal stage in any tournament played. And the concerning thing is that the Japanese hasn’t been looking well throughout the entire summer since she hasn’t won back-to-back matches in any of her last six events played.
“4 years, 2 Slams and a whole lot of memories. Thanks Wim for being a great coach and an even greater person, wishing you all the best,” she announced through an Instagram Story.
Osaka didn’t hide her massive disappointment after her early US Open exit
After losing in the Cincinnati qualifying final round in what was her first qualifying appearance in six years, the former world No. 1 was devastated and later revealed that she had an “out of body experience.”
At the US Open, the four-time Major winner was able to start with a win over Jelena Ostapenko but then easily lost in straight sets to Karolina Muchova in her following match.
“It’s a little rough because I do take these losses really personally. It’s like a dramatic word, but I feel like my heart dies every time I lose. I’ve been trying to be more mature and learn and talk more about them,” the Japanese said after her early US Open exit.
After taking some time to analyze everything, Osaka probably figured out that it just wasn’t working out with Fissette and that she needed a new voice.
