‘Absolute f*cking joke!’ – Man City left raging AGAIN as Ederson forced off injured – days after John Stones suffered same fate – due to ‘stupid’ offside law

Manchester City fans were left raging after seeing Ederson sustain an injury as a result of a delayed offside flag.

Injured during an offside play

The Premier League champions lost first-choice goalkeeper Ederson early on against Newcastle after he sustained an injury. However, City fans were left fuming as the Brazilian picked up the problem when play continued as a result of a delayed offside flag.

Ederson sustained the injury in a collision with Sean Longstaff as the Newcastle attacker ended up putting the ball in the net. The goal was ruled out by VAR but Ederson had to go off, being replaced by Stefan Ortega. City fans complained on social media because the assistant referee did not raise the flag because of the offside rule surrounding VAR.

“Absolute f*cking joke the offside procedure nowadays, he’s blatantly offside, linesman doesn’t raise his flag and Ederson gets injured as a result,” one spectator complained.

Journalist Simon Hattenstone wrote: “Stupidest f*cking rule change in footy – playing on when clearly offside. Now City have lost Ederson to a ‘playing on’ injury , having already lost Stones to it.”

Another person said: “Stones and Ederson now injured due to football collectively deciding linesmen are basically pointless.”

DID YOU KNOW?

The injury to Ederson comes not long after defender John Stones sustained an injury in similar circumstances. During the match against Everton last month, he made a challenge to stop Beto from scoring but the goal would not have counted anyway as the forward was offside. The assistant referee did not wave offside, though, as Premier League officials are told to delay raising their flags and halting the run of play.

WHAT NEXT FOR EDERSON?

City will be hoping that Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson’s injury is not too serious. They will hope he is available to start in their FA Cup match against Tottenham on January 26.
