The fever of major tournaments will return with the Masters 1000 in Shanghai, the penultimate of the season. Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic will meet on the courts since the US Open 2024, which the Italian won.

Both Alcaraz and Djokovic want and must have a good run in one of the last big events of the season. The Spaniard will try to win his second Masters of the year, while the world number one will fight for his third.

For Nole, it would be his first title of the year (apart from his gold medal at the Paris Olympics), although he has won this same tournament four times.

Major challenges

The Shanghai Masters will start on September 30 and as usual the top seeds will have a bye from the first round.

Defending champion Hubert Hurkacz will not play this season, meaning that this edition will crown a new champion. Alcaraz is desperate to reduce the points deficit to Sinner and the 1,000 points on offer from the tournament will do him a world of good, while Djokovic is not looking for much in terms of ranking but more of an opportunity to add another trophy to his collection.

In addition to the three players, the tournament will feature the presence of almost all the stars of the circuit, and many could create a surprise like Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev and Frances Tiafoe who are in excellent form.
