Paula Badosa gave a rather interesting and strong interview in the last press conference at the Australian Open, given that she was eliminated in the third round against the American Amanda Anisimova. The 26-year-old reflected on the moment and the difficulties that, in her opinion, Spanish tennis is experiencing.
“I’ve been thinking and saying this for a long time, there’s a lack of players. It’s something that makes me a little sad because I believe that our movement has always had many athletes. I was inspired by many players like Rafa, David Ferrer, Verdasco.
Now we have an exceptional player like Carlos Alcaraz, Davidovich Fokina who has a lot of potential and is an excellent tennis player capable of anything, but then on the women’s side we are struggling a little more. I would like to know the solution to see if I can help more athletes get out of it. I think there’s still a lack of good groundwork from the Federation or something like that,” she told.
On the topic she then added: “What Carlos and Nadal do hide everything a bit, but the Big 3 also hid everything. It has always been said that men’s sport is more consistent, but now we see how tennis players from the top 10 fall in the first or second round. Luckily, having Alcaraz covers everything we have behind us as there aren’t many Spanish players at the moment.”

“It’s very positive, especially considering the condition of my injury. I feel quite good, although obviously physically I still have to reach my best level. She played very well, she was very focused in the moments when she needed to be. In my case I have two good victories, I played good tennis and in a few weeks I will be back in condition,” she explained.
