The German tennis player feels ready to win the first Major of his career
“I have fantastic feelings after this match, I’m back in the semi-final and I’m proud of this result. It’s clear that I would like to win this tournament but in the meantime my goal is to reach the final, this is my main goal. If we talk about my current level I have to say it was a very good challenge on my part and I’m happy to be where I am.”
Alexander Zverev did not deny his real ambitions in the press conference that followed his victory in the Roland Garros quarter-finals against Alex De Minaur. The German will challenge Casper Ruud in the semifinal but will be the underdog, also considering the excellent results he has achieved in the last month, such as the victory at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
Regarding De Minaur and Ruud, the German tennis player analyzed: “De Minaur has improved a lot, especially on serve, he is a great tennis player and I also noticed him in Turin. Ruud is playing his third consecutive semi-final here, he has just come from two finals, I think we are talking about one of the best tennis players on this surface. I will have to play the best tennis to have any chance.”
Zverev then gave a brief summary of his feelings about the domestic violence trial he is involved in in Berlin: “From my point of view everything is going very well, there is nothing else to say about it.”
Talking about the second set won against De Minaur, in which Zverev recovered from 0-4 in the tie-break, the German analyzed his feelings and the conditions of the court.
“I remained very calm and I knew the court conditions were very slow, which was quite tough. Today the serve didn’t play a very important role like the other days, the court was really slow. Afterwards in the third set I played much freer. However, that set was quite important for me and I must say that I always felt good on a physical level. I could play another five-set match without problems even if it was still better not to play it. In the long run I thought that playing in three sets was very important and that’s why I didn’t give up even in the second set, better to save energy for the semi-finals,” he explained.
