“Alexander Zverev will get over the hump” – German more likely to win a Grand Slam than Stefanos Tsitsipas, suggest John Isner, Jack Sock, Sam Querrey
Former tennis professionals John Isner, Jack Sock, and Sam Querrey recently suggested that Alexander Zverev is more likely to win a Grand Slam trophy than Stefanos Tsitsipas. Both Zverev and Tsitsipas have been runners-up at the Majors twice.
Zverev reached his career’s first Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2020 when Austria’s Dominic Thiem defeated him to win the men’s singles title. The German notably bottled a two-set lead to lose the summit clash 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(6).Most recently, he clashed with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2024 French Open and lost again after having the upper hand at the end of three sets. Alcaraz won that match 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Tsitsipas faced a similar fate when he played his first Major final in 2021 at the French Open against Novak Djokovic. The Greek won the first two sets but Djokovic staged a comeback to complete a 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win.In his second final played at the Australian Open in 2023, he lost 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) to the Serb.In a recent episode of Nothing Major Podcast, John Isner, Jack Sock, and Sam Querrey came across a fan opinion that suggested none of Zverev and Tsitsipas would win a Grand Slam title.
“It’s a good take because both those guys have been so close, obviously Sascha twice and then Tsitsipas at the French Open up two sets to love against Djokovic in the final. When you get that close and don’t slam the door shut, that can wear on you mentally,” Isner said agreeing with the opinion.
At this, however, Sock opined one of the two may become a Grand Slam champion and Querrey picked Zverev over Tsitsipas to do so.
“One of them snags one I think,” Sock said.
“I think Zverev snags one… Tsitsipas is trending in the wrong direction,” Querrey added.
Isner chimed in, saying:
“I think Sascha [Alexander Zverev] will get over the hump simply because of how well he can serve when he has one of those good days or good weeks.”

In the same interaction at the Nothing Major Podcast, Sam Querrey backed Alexander Zverev to triumph at the 2025 Australian Open.
“I think he [Alexander Zverev] wins Aussie 2025,” Sock claimed.
Zverev’s best results at the Australian Open thus far have been runs to the semifinals in 2020 (lost to Dominic Thiem 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(4)) and 2024 (lost to Daniil Medvedev 5-7, 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), 6-3).Most recently, he bowed out of the 2024 US Open men’s singles event in the quarterfinals. Home-favorite Taylor Fritz downed him 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(3).
