First perfect set, second full of ups and downs: Carlos Alcaraz’s debut at the Queen’s ATP 500 tournament respected the prediction also showing the ability of the Spaniard to manage difficult moments without losing sight of the final goal.

The attempt to defend the title at the Cinch Championships began with the success against Francisco Cerundolo with the score of 6-1, 7-5. In the first set there was absolutely no match, because Alcaraz has always led the game against a shy Cerundolo, too often inaccurate with the backhand.

Andy Murray praises Carlos Alcaraz

Andy Murray has never hidden that he is a big fan of Carlos Alcaraz: “I really wanted to train with him, because I love watching him play. He is one of my favorite players and one of the best players in the world, so I wanted to measure myself to him, see how he combines my game against his game, how he manages inside the track.

It’s great for me to be able to measure myself against new generation players and see what they do better, worse or different than the guys I’ve faced all my career, the Roger, Rafa or Novak. I was also able to train against Sinner at the Australian Open, in addition. I enjoyed it and played very well in that training”.

Carlos Alcaraz has often praised Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal for dominating the Tour for so long. One quality, in particular, has allowed Big 3 to write the history of tennis year after year: the constant desire to work on details to continue to improve despite all the successes and records.

It is by reflecting on this important lesson that Alcaraz does not want to stop growing to add new and fundamental elements to his game and his abilities.
