“I would probably say a forehand drop shot, a forehand passing shot or a lob tweener. I’ve done it sometimes. It’s my favorite shot, so I try to find it in every match. I just choose the shot when I have to do it! I don’t think about it beforehand,” he explained.
In the first set things went pretty well, with Alcaraz seeming to have rediscovered his brilliance, compared to the previous match. In the second, however, the problems began and only by saving himself on four occasions, Carlitos was able to put the dangers at 2-2. Humbert then gave him a big hand when he served to stay in the set. It was in the third set that Alcaraz completely switched off, losing six consecutive games and three times the serve. Three breaks in a row characterized the very early stages of the fourth: two in favor of the native of El Palmar. Alcaraz did not solve the problems, because at 3-2 he put Humbert back in the running. The Frenchman had the most important chance at 4-3, but saw his opponent bravely come back from 0-40. The French tennis player got himself into trouble in the eleventh game, finally surrendering.
Alcaraz has obtained the pass to the next round where he will face the winner between Tommy Paul, who beat Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets. The American will be a tought opponent, especially considering he is going through a beautiful moment of form. In the post-match conference the Spanish champion analyzed the match and spoke about the playing conditions.
“It’s always great to qualify for the Quarterfinals, I feel great on the court. I improve in every match I play and I feel comfortable. I hope to continue like this, I think I had the right concentration throughout the match. The third set was the most difficult for me, at a certain point I made too many mistakes, he broke and started playing better and better.
At the same time I couldn’t find a way to read his serve and I was in great difficulty. After the 0-40 game in the fourth set, I saved that game and my tennis improved, I managed to get the win.
I’m happy that the third set didn’t affect me, I remained strong mentally and things went better and better. I’m not used to playing indoors honestly even if I don’t consider myself a bad player in these playing conditions. However, I think there are several tennis players who are better than me in these conditions and I, if it were up to me, I would always prefer to play outdoors, my tennis is suited to these playing conditions,” he said
