Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a few days of rest and celebration
After his success at Roland Garros last Sunday, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in five sets, Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a few days of rest and celebration to celebrate with friends in Ibiza the conquest of his third Grand Slam.
The current world number two has already returned to training this weekend to prepare for the grass-court tour, which will begin for the 21-year-old Spaniard at the ATP 500 at Queen’s, where he won the title last year to start a historic tour in which he won Wimbledon.
The three-time Grand Slam champion is already adding training days on grass to fine-tune his game after weeks of competition on clay, a more than successful stage of the year with his first triumph at Roland Garros.
Clay and grass are very different surfaces
After arriving in London, Carlos Alcaraz began his work focused on getting into the rhythm on the fast surface to repeat the success in this first competition and then in the third Major of the calendar.
Carlos Alcaraz did one of his training sessions with the Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo, who will be his first rival in this tournament that will see him debut next Tuesday. Despite knowing that they will face each other in the first round, the native of El Palmar and the Argentine kept up their practice since they are friends and know each other very well.
During a long interview, Greg Rusedski spoke about Alcaraz’s chances in Wimbledon: “He came in with a bit of an injury on his elbow, he had a little bit of a problem with the groin. He wasn’t playing his best tennis but he still found a way to win.
But to win on three surfaces and be the youngest guy to win on clay, grass, and hard courts, the guy to do that before was a certain guy called Rafael Nadal, so he’s got an unbelievable pedigree and I’m excited to see if he can transition his form and get healthy for Wimbledon.”
