Carlos Alcaraz is on his way to becoming one of the greatest players of this era. The Spaniard has won two grand slams, helping him climb to the top of the table. As he achieves a greater platform, comparisons will run wild. Many see him as another Roger Federer, including a former coach of the Swiss Maestro. He also revealed why he believed that Alcaraz and Federer were similar to each other.
Jose Higueras, a former coach of the 20-time grand slam champion, recently appeared on the Tennis Channel Inside-In segment and talked about the state of tennis today. He focused on Roger Federer for one segment and went on to say that Alcaraz possesses abilities similar to him. Both players rely greatly on their instincts.
Higueras said, “I think Alcaraz kind of reminds me a little bit of that too. They play by instinct a lot more than other players, that you can actually structure more, so that’s another thing I actually learned from him.”
Higueras has trained the likes of Michael Change, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras and even Todd Martin. His expertise in tennis is as great as the likes of Rick Macci, which only helps add more weight to his words.
While the legendary coach talks big about Alcaraz, painting a great future for him, the Spaniard himself is proving that he is here to big or go home.
Alcaraz comes closer to some of the best players in history
The young Spaniard showed us great performances this year. His efforts helped him earn many titles and even create history. Additionally, his victories also helped him come closer to some of the greatest players in history. After the Shanghai Masters, Alcaraz recorded 25 victories in Masters tournaments in one calendar year.
He has the sixth-highest number of wins in Masters tournaments in one year. Currently, Novak Djokovic leads the number with 39 wins, a record far above Alcaraz. However, the Spaniard is yet to tap into his prime. He is showing remarkable potential and has a great chance of equalising and surpassing the Djoker’s numbers.
