Chiefs held to 3 points in first half of SB LVIII: when was the last time it happened?

The Kansas City Chiefs failed to score a TD in the first half of Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers.

In a clash of two mighty defenses, the San Francisco 49ers came out on top in the first half of Super Bowl LVIII. While kicker Jake Moody and running back Christian McCaffrey were able to to get the Niners on the board, the Kansas City Chiefs failed to score a touchdown and were almost shut out by SF’s defense.

Despite being led under center by the mighty Patrick Mahomes, it is far from the only time that this has happened to the Chiefs. Although it is their lowest scoring half in Super Bowl history.

Luckily, thanks to a Harrison Butker field goal, the Chiefs avoided going completely scoreless in the first half. As all 13 teams that were shut out in the first half in Super Bowl history went on to lose the game.

The last time the Kansas City Chiefs went scoreless in a half

The Chiefs went scoreless in the second half of the AFC Championship two weeks ago against the Baltimore Ravens. Ultimately, the 17 points scored by the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Isiah Pacheco and Harrison Butker (field goal) proved enough to hold off the Ravens in the second half and win 17-10.

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers had a low scoring first half in Super Bowl LVIII. History, however, shows that it is far from the first defensive clash in the big game. Here are the lowest scoring first halves in SB history.
