Coco Gauff recently announced her last tournament of the year after her loss at the 2024 Wuhan Open. She had a terrific win at the China Open ahead of her semifinal loss in Wuhan.
The 20-year-old reached the semifinals of the Wuhan Open by trouncing Viktoriya Tomova, Marta Kostyuk, and Magda Linette. However, she fell short of moving forward to the final after facing defeat from Aryna Sabalenka 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.Following this loss, Gauff took to her Instagram story and shared a picture of the streets of Wuhan, saying that the WTA Finals Riyadh would be her last match of the year.
“Last night here in China after 4 weeks. had a great time, thanks for the warm welcome and support during this swing. Only one more tournament left for the season @wtafinalsriyadh,” Coco Gauff wrote.
Ahead of her loss at the Wuhan Open, the American delivered a terrific performance at the China Open, winning all her matches with relative ease and beating Karolina Muchova in the final 6-1, 6-3.

Aryna Sabalenka was asked about Coco Gauff’s serving struggles during the press conference after the Wuhan Open.
“I was playing that match thinking, like, ‘Well, girl, I feel you. I feel you like nobody else,'” Sabalenka said. “I know what she’s going through. This is really difficult. This is really tough. But I know that if she’ll be able to overcome this serve situation, she is already one of the best players, but I’m pretty sure she’s going to be one of the greatest players.”
Gauff did not pay much heed to the concerns during her appearance and said:
“I wouldn’t describe it as the worst time ever. I’ve been through worse things in off-court situations than not being able to serve well. There are moments in the match where you are just like, I just want to leave the court. I think for me, I didn’t want myself to go into that mentality because it’s not going to change anything. I was just trying to be positive. Today it didn’t work.”
“Honestly, for me I’m not worried because I found the solution. I didn’t really have time to work on it. I’m really happy with how the last couple weeks went. I’m just trying to be positive from there.”
Gauff has won eight singles titles in her career. Along with the China Open title, the 20-year-old won the ASB Classic in January 2024 and the French Open women’s doubles in June 2024.
