Coco Gauff unveils latest custom New Balance sneakers in collaboration with luxury fashion brand ahead of Italian Open

Coco Gauff, the 21-year-old tennis sensation and 2023 US Open champion, is redefining tennis fashion with her latest collaboration, a dazzling partnership between New Balance and luxury fashion powerhouse Miu Miu. Ahead of the Italian Open, set to kick off on May 7, 2025, Gauff has unveiled a stunning collection of custom Coco CG2 sneakers and curated on- and off-court looks that blend athletic performance with high-fashion flair. This groundbreaking collaboration marks a historic moment, as Gauff becomes the first player to wear an Italian luxury brand during gameplay at a WTA event in Italy, pushing the boundaries of sport and style.

Gauff’s relationship with New Balance began in 2018 when she was just 14, and her star power has since grown exponentially. In 2022, she signed a long-term extension with the Boston-based brand, cementing her role as a trailblazer in tennis fashion. The new collection, which includes her signature Coco CG2 sneakers, is a testament to her creative influence. Designed with Miu Miu’s signature elegance, the sneakers feature a sleek, ballet flat-inspired silhouette with grippy soles for court agility, blending the sporty functionality of New Balance with the sophisticated aesthetic of the Italian label. The collection also includes performance-driven apparel and accessories, such as silk zip-front hoodies, trackpants, and the New Balance x Miu Miu 350 SL sneaker for off-court style.

“I showed them what silhouettes I like, and we worked around that as a starting point,” Gauff shared in a candid interview. “We were, like, What can we do in tennis that has either never been done or been done very few times?” She drew inspiration from rare instances of high fashion on the court, noting, “The only time I can think of high fashion on the court was when Off-White partnered with Serena [Williams].” Gauff’s vision was to create something bold and unprecedented, and the result is a collection that’s as innovative as it is eye-catching. For the Italian Open, she’ll sport a “classically elegant” navy and white look with pops of red, while her Berlin Tennis Open kit in June will feature white and green with sky-blue accents, and her Cincinnati Open outfit in August will showcase white and royal blue with red highlights.

The collaboration extends beyond aesthetics, reflecting Gauff’s personal touch. Her handwritten signature adorns the Coco CG2 sneakers, and the apparel nods to Miu Miu’s Spring 2025 collection with details like flyaway collars and rolled sleeves. “This feels really natural,” Gauff said, emphasizing the organic fit of the project. “I think it was meant to be.” Her involvement in the design process underscores her authenticity, a quality she’s carried since her early days in Delray Beach, Florida, where she honed her skills on public courts. “I’m incredibly proud to launch the new Coco Delray because it’s more than just a tennis shoe—it represents an opportunity to broaden access to those interested in playing the game,” she said of her recent everyday tennis shoe release, a ethos that carries into this luxury collaboration.

This partnership is a milestone for tennis fashion, which has historically leaned toward functionality over flair. Gauff’s collection challenges that norm, joining a rare lineage of high-fashion tennis moments, such as Serena Williams’ Off-White collaboration or Jannik Sinner’s Gucci appearances. The New Balance x Miu Miu collection will be available starting September 10, 2025, on miumiu.com and in select Miu Miu stores, offering fans a chance to own a piece of this historic crossover. As Gauff prepares to take the court in Rome, her bold style and unrelenting drive signal a new era for tennis, where fashion and performance collide in spectacular fashion.
