Ashton Kutcher is getting called into question after a series of old interview clips began making rounds on social media. In the latest video to resurface, the star — who recently penned a letter of support for convicted rapist and That ’70s Show co-star Danny Masterson — confirmed that Masterson bet him money to French kiss a then-14-year-old Mila Kunis, whom he is now married to.
While appearing on a 2002 episode of The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Kutcher and Kunis playfully opened up about their first onscreen kiss for That ’70s Show — which also served as Kunis’ first kiss ever.
“She was 14 when we started the show. I was 19,” Kutcher said at the time. “And they were like, ‘You guys are going to be making out in this scene.’ And I’m thinking, ‘Wait, this is slightly illegal.’”
Kunis then chimed in with her own version of events.
“I’ve never kissed a guy,” she recalled. “Ashton’s attractive and I was a 14-year-old little girl and I was extremely scared for my life. He was very nice about it, he was like, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ Then Danny goes to him and goes, ‘Dude, I’ll give you $10 if you French kiss her.’”
After going back and forth over what happened with his now-wife, Kutcher finally admitted that he and Masterson “had a little side bet going.” He explained, “You’re kissing on the show, we’re boyfriend and girlfriend. You would use tongue. So Danny bets me like 20 bucks I wouldn’t do it.”
When Kunis said she “didn’t let him” but she thought “he tried” to French kiss her, Kutcher claimed that she had turned 15 by then, which, according to him, made a “big difference.”
Last week, a judge sentenced Masterson to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women. It was later revealed that Kutcher and Kunis wrote letters of support for their former co-star ahead of his trial, where they referred to him as a “role model.” Shortly after, the married couple released a video apologizing for the letters and insisting they “support victims.”
Their appearance on The Rosie O’Donnell Show is just one of many cringey clips that have resurfaced of the sitcom’s actors in light of Masterson’s sentencing. In a 2004 interview between Masterson and Conan O’Brien, the latter tells him he’s “be caught soon.” Plus, a 2003 episode of Punk’d shows a 25-year-old Kutcher thirsting over Hilary Duff and the Olsen twins — who were 15 and 17 years old at the time, respectively.
“Hilary Duff is in Lizzie McGuire. She also has an album out. She’s going to be in a movie called Cheaper By The Dozen. And she’s one of the girls that we’re all waiting for to turn 18,” Kutcher says in the clip, before adding, “Along with the Olsen Twins.”
