However, a recently surfaced video from TMZ tells a different story, indicating that the famous singer barely made any physical contact with the young NBA player.
As Wembanyama, a mere 19 years old, prepared for his NBA Summer League debut on Friday evening, he was unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight due to this off-the-court incident involving a renowned celebrity with a fervent fan base.
In his attempt to clarify the situation, Wembanyama stated that Spears had grabbed his arm. However, the video footage contradicts both his and Spears’ accounts of the events. Initially, Spears claimed that the alleged slap caused her to fall to the ground, yet the video merely shows her glasses being knocked off her face.
Moreover, the video reveals that Damian Smith, the head of security for the Spurs, was unintentionally involved in the incident as he attempted to prevent Spears from making contact with Wembanyama. Strikingly, she insists that neither Wembanyama nor the organization has offered her an apology.
According to TMZ, no charges will be filed against Smith, suggesting that his actions were unintentional. Furthermore, it becomes evident that Wembanyama was unaware of who had touched him or the subsequent events. He simply continued forward, focused on his intended path, as the incident unfolded.
The encounter took place outside Catch restaurant in Las Vegas, where Spears had been enjoying a meal with friends. Allegedly, she approached Wembanyama, lightly tapping his left shoulder and expressing her desire to take a picture. Interestingly, she maintained a British accent throughout the interaction, even after being slapped.
Following the incident, Spears was visibly upset, shouting, “That’s America for you. F— you all.” Reports suggest that she remained angry throughout her dinner with friends.
