Emma Raducanu admitted that she has no expectations for this year’s Wimbledon after starting it with a win.
The British player had a really solid grass season leading up to Wimbledon, winning some competitive matches, such as the one against Jessica Pegula in Eastbourne. Some pundits named her as a dark horse at this year’s Wimbledon, but Raducanu isn’t thinking that big.
She’s confident in her ability to play well, something she repeated a few times in the past few weeks but didn’t arrive in London hoping to go very deep. She arrived with the mindset of playing as best as she could and cherishing every win.
“As I said in the first press conference, I would be over the moon if I won my first round here, and I really am. I feel the joy of just being on-site, just being part of the buzz. I’m really just enjoying myself. I think that each match I win should be celebrated.”
