Eala ends year at No. 189

Alex Eala equaled her career-high ranking to end her season in the women’s professional tennis circuit on a high note.

After sitting at No. 190 for weeks, Eala reached No. 189 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings on the strength of a runner-of finish in Luxembourg as her last tournament this season.

She previously reached the mark in October.

Eala tying her career-best was a culmination of a banner season marked by a two-title feat to hike her collection to four overall crowns in her budding career.

The 18-year old Filipina tennis pride reigned supreme in the W25 Yecla in Spain and W25 Roehampton in England against a bevy of seasoned rivals.

It’s the first season in which Eala won two titles and barged inside the Top 200 rankings of the elite WTA.

In Luxembourg, she could have made it to five mints this season but she fell short to French bet Oceane Dodin, 6-1, 7-5, in the W40 Petange finals.
