Emma Raducanu, Maria Sharapova congratulate Jannik Sinner on Australian Open win

Emma Raducanu congratulated Jannik Sinner on winning the Australian Open by applauding his victory, while Maria Sharapova decided to have a bit of fun and congratulate the 22-year-old Italian in a creative way.

On Sunday, world No. 4 Sinner became a Grand Slam champion after creating a very impressive comeback against Daniil Medvedev. After nearly four hours of play, Sinner completed a five-set comeback and beat Medvedev 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3.

Raducanu, who became a Grand Slam champion at the 2021 US Open in a historic way, didn’t write any words in her congratulatory message to Sinner.

While Raducanu acknowledged Sinner’s win in a simple way, former five-time Grand Slam champion Sharapova did it in a funny way.

In a video posted on X, Sharapova revealed that she and Sinner sang together a holiday karaoke. While singing the song, Sharapova and Sinner can also be seen wearing a pair of matching reindeer antlers.

“I knew that one day you’ll regret this. Congrats Champ!! patience, poise & class,” Sharapova wrote on X.

On Sunday, Sinner became a Grand Slam champion – the first Italian man to win the Australian Open – and the first Italian man to win a Grand Slam in 48 years. In his post-final press conference, Sinner admitted he needed to process what he had just accomplished.

“No, for sure it takes a little while to process everything. I’m extremely happy how I handled things today. The situation on court was very, very tough,” Sinner said.

Before the 2024 season, Sinner had a couple of really tough Grand Slam quarterfinal defeats. Also, Sinner lost to Novak Djokovic in his first Grand Slam semifinal at 2023 Wimbledon.

But now that Sinner has made a big Grand Slam breakthrough and become a Grand Slam champion, he probably feels relieved. It will be interesting to see if Sinner can have more Slam wins this year.
