Coco Gauff finished her 2024 Roland Garros run in the semi-final, losing to Iga Swiatek, and she’s proud of the result.
The 20-year-old American was playing really solid tennis at this year’s Roland Garros, beating opponents relatively easily en route to the semi-final. An old nemesis in Swiatek awaited there, and once again, the nemesis proved too strong as the Polish player won the match.
It was a painful loss for Gauff, who felt quite confident about her game leading up to the match, but in the end, she wasn’t able to really do much in the match. Speaking after the match, the American analyzed her tennis, admitting that she’s proud of the result, although she wouldn’t necessarily describe herself as happy.
“It was a tough match as always, she played at a tough level and it was, um, I think I made a lot of errors but you know, overall I am happy. Well, I don’t know about happy but I’m proud of the run and I hope to go further next time.”
Gauff had a plan for approaching the matchup, but when it came to executing it on the tennis court, it didn’t quite go that well. She had a couple of chances and led in the second set but never quite could see it through in a meaningful way, as the Pole seems to be on-course for another French Open trophy.
“I think it was the execution that I, you know, didn’t do well on. I had a lot, a couple break points in the early in the first set to break back. And I made errors a lot of short ball areas and I think, um, you know, for the most part I do think I had the right idea, but I think I just made too many errors.”
