“HE IS SO GOOD FOR THE SPORT”: NICK KYRGIOS IS MISUNDERSTOOD SAYS RISING AUSSIE STAR, DANE SWEENY

Although Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is viewed as one of the more controversial players on the ATP circuit, the former Wimbledon finalist is often picked on by the media, according to compatriot Dane Sweeny.

Sweeny made his main draw debut at the 2024 Australian Open, fighting through the qualifying rounds to make it to the first round of the Grand Slam event. However, he fell to Argentine Francisco Cerundolo in five exhausting sets.

Kyrgios brings more eyeballs to tennis, according to Sweeny

In an interview during the Bengaluru Open, Sweeny was asked to give his thoughts on Kyrgios. The 23-year old was full of praise for his compatriot, and stated the media were biased in their treatment of the former World No.13, despite the attention he brought to the sport.

“Yeah, definitely. I think he is probably the most talented or one of the most talented right now,” said Sweeny. “I don’t know him too much on a personal level, so really can’t say too much.
“I know the media likes to skew things. The judgement he gets from the media is never correct. So, I don’t have too much to say about him, but he is so good for the sport. Not many people can bring that much attention to the sport, good or bad. At the end of the day, he is bringing attention to the sport, making it more renowned. So, that helps for sure and I hope to see him back on court soon.”
