Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz‘s rivalry is growing by the day, and the Italian loves it because it makes him a better player.
The two young prodigies grew up together on the ATP Tour. The Italian broke out earlier than his younger rival, who took some time to get there but eventually overtook Sinner because of his rapid rise.
It was something that we hadn’t seen in a really long time. They’ve played some really big matches along the way, finals, semi-finals, and quarter-finals, like the one at the US Open, which was so far the best match their rivalry has seen.
Both of them are fabulous players and tremendously competitive, which is exactly what the point of a rivalry is. It makes the players better by forcing them to one-up each other.
The best example of this was the Big Three and how they motivated each other to reach even higher. Sinner and Alcaraz will likely do the same for each other, and the Italian is glad about it.
“I am very happy for him. He makes me a better tennis player… every time when I play against him and I lose I know what I have to improve. Me and my team we will work on that and we can’t wait to play against him again.”
They played recently in Paris. Alcaraz won that match despite Sinner leading 2-1 after three sets. The Italian learned a lot from that match, and now he’s back to the drawing board trying to figure out how to beat the Spaniard.
“I think this makes me a better player because we have a rivalry which is a little bit different.. so I am very happy to hopefully show also in the future that I have improved as a player and I’m looking forward to it.”
