Boris Becker announced on Tuesday that he was parting ways with Holger Rune after only a few months working together after it seemed like he had the dream team featuring both Becker and Severin Luthi, two of the trusted allies of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the past.

But now Rune is back to stage one again after splitting with Lars Christensen, his coach of 15 years last year and also Patrick Mouratoglou in a fractious affair, he said he has found difficulty in nailing down a perfect coach. All of those who have been involved with Rune and have since split owe it to the time needed to work with the Dane.

He said in a statement released on Wednesday that while he needs coaches that are there with him at all times, he is set to announce his next step very soon. It could be mooted that Kenneth Carlsen will be involved after working with him over this season while Becker has been absent, but all will soon be confirmed.

“As you know, I have been trying different coaching constellations the past 12 months. Since working with the same coach for 15 years, that is my whole tennis life, it’s not easy to find the perfect fit in the first try.I have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to be able to feel good and at the same time develop as I want. I have big ambitions and big goals and I need people around me that have the same vision and people I can trust to reach my goals. I need people that knows me – who can be there all the time. This gives me comfort and happiness in a world with changing environments and conditions every week,” said Rune.

“I want to thank all the people involved in the process, Lars, Boris, Severin, I love you, and I am happy to shortly inform more about my final coaching set up.”
