Holger Rune fell to Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the Wimbledon fourth round
Holger Rune will compete in the Hamburg Open quarter-final. Holger defeated Fabian Marozsan and Marco Trungelliti, bouncing back after a tough Wimbledon loss and remaining on the title course. Rune fell to Novak Djokovic in the fourth round at the All England Club, suffering a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 loss in two hours and three minutes on Centre Court.
The young Dane took only one day off, returning to the practice court ahead of Hamburg and preparing for the ATP 500 event and the Olympic Games. Novak and Holger played their sixth duel at Wimbledon, and Novak delivered his fourth victory.
The veteran experienced stomach issues, overcoming them and the hecklers from the crowd en route to a rock-solid victory.
Djokovic sailed through his service games, defending both break points and keeping the pressure on the other side.
Holger landed in only 54% of the first serve and lost 40% of the points behind the initial shot. He felt constant pressure and got broken four times from 14 chances presented to Novak. The Serb tamed his strokes nicely and welcomed 29 unforced errors from his opponent.
Djokovic was off to a flying start, taking the opening 12 points and delivering a break at love in game two for an early advantage. The Dane saved a break point in the sixth game, remaining within one break deficit but losing the opener 6-3 following the Serb’s reliable holds.
Holger raised his level early in the second set, following Novak’s pace and leading 3-2.

Djokovic made a push at 4-2 and clinched a break after Rune’s double fault, extending the gap and landing a volley winner in game eight for a hold at love and a place in his 15th Wimbledon quarter-final. “I only had one day off after Wimbledon, having worked on my game and entering Hamburg.
I was very disappointed after losing to Novak Djokovic, heading to the practice court and keeping my intensity while working on improvements,” Holger Rune said.
