Denis Shapovalov and his fiance, Mirjam Bjorklund, recently showcased their fashion flair at the wedding of Björklund’s sister, Tanja, who married golf commentator Olle Widegren in a private ceremony.
Björklund and Shapovalov have been dating since 2019 and announced their engagement in June 2023. As the 2024 tennis season is nearing its end, the couple took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with family and friends over the weekend.On Sunday, Shapovalov posted several images from the wedding on his Instagram feed, reflecting on the beauty of the occasion and congratulating Tanja and Widegren. The Canadian opted to wear a tuxedo, while Bjorklund wore a short-sleeve, full-length floral gown.
“The most beautiful wedding with the most beautiful people. Congrats @tanjabjorklunds and @golfolle,” Denis Shapovalov said.
Mirjam Bjorklund also shared pictures from the wedding on her Instagram feed. One of the photos was a selfie with Shapovalov, another featured the newlyweds, and the last slide showcased the scenery of the wedding venue.
“I’ve got a brother!!!!! The best wedding ever, I love you guys! @tanjabjorklunds @golfolle,” said Bjorklund.
Following his victory over Daniel Altmaier in the second round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Denis Shapovalov was interviewed by Tennis Channel. During the interview, he was humorously asked about his wedding preparations with Mirjam Björklund.
“I think she’s doing much more of it than I am, I think it’s going well. Obviously getting married next year, and we’re preparing, we’re getting ready, sending the invites and stuff, things are moving along,” he responded.
Shapovalov was also asked if stars from the ATP and WTA tours would be attending the wedding, but he said it would be a small, private event for family and longtime friends. After saying this, he humorously apologized to Félix Auger-Aliassime.
“No pros, its going to be a very small and intimate, I’m sorry Felix(Auger-Aliassime) . No pros are invited, mainly just family and friends from really long time ago” – Denis Shapovalov added
Shapovalov has had a difficult 2024 season, losing 20 matches and winning 18. The Canadian has struggled to find form since returning from a six-month injury layoff in January 2024 and has yet to break back into the ATP Top 100. His next match will be at the Challenger Orléans, where he will face Lebanon’s Benjamin Hassan on Tuesday.Mirjam Björklund, on the other hand, has also struggled with form this season in the ITF. However, since turning pro in 2017, she has won 10 ITF singles titles, two ITF doubles titles, and one doubles title on the ATP Challenger Tour.
