‘Increasingly confident’: Man City now think they will sign ‘unstoppable’ £51m player very soon – Romano

It has been reported that Manchester City are confident that they will wrap up a deal to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolves.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed on Sunday that City have submitted a £51.4 million bid to secure his services.

Now, it seems like Manchester City internally believe that Matheus Nunes will sign for them imminently.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City are ‘internally confident’ about Matheus Nunes transfer

Branded as ‘unstoppable’ by journalist Zach Lowy, the Portuguese international seems to be targeted by the treble-winners due to Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury.

With arguably the club’s standout player set to miss at least half the season, their midfield department is in serious need of strengthening.

This self-assuredness stems from the fact that the Sky Blues believe that their latest bid worth in excess of £51.5 million is enough to get the transfer over the line.

Further details claim that the negotiations have reached the final stages now.

The signing of Matheus Nunes could divide opinion

If Manchester City do end up signing Matheus Nunes this summer, it is likely to divide opinion.

On one hand, the former Sporting CP midfielder fits the bill of a Pep Guardiola player, as he is technically proficient, industrious and a terrific ball-carrier.

On the other hand, Matheus Nunes profiles similarly to Mateo Kovacic in particular and perhaps even Bernardo Silva.

While finding a like-for-like replacement for a player of Kevin De Bruyne’s calibre is impossible, bringing in another advanced midfielder is not.

Especially considering that apart from Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City lack creators in the middle of the park.

As a result, while Nunes is excellent, many might question the rationale behind his potential arrival.
