“IT WAS VERY CLEAR THAT THERE WAS REALLY GOOD ENERGY”: BORIS BECKER AND SEVERIN LUTHI ALREADY WORKING WELL AS A TANDEM WITH HOLGER RUNE

Former World No.1 Boris Becker has teamed up with Severin Luthi to coach Holger Rune, and the relationship seems to be heading in the right direction, according to the Danish star’s mother.

Becker became an official member of Rune’s coaching team in October of this year, and the World No.8 added Luthi to his team on Wednesday. Luthi spent 15 years working with 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, whereas Becker mentored World No.1 Novak Djokovic from 2013 till 2016.

Both coaches have great chemistry together, says Aneke Rune

Playing the role of manager for her son Holger, Aneke Rune revealed Becker and Luthi are great when working together, despite having coached against each other on numerous occasions. Rune’s mother indicated that both men hit it off and had a successful training session recently in Monaco.

‘After the test weeks in Monaco in the pre-season, where both Boris and Severin were at the training sessions, it was very clear that there was really good energy both between Holger and Severin, but also between Boris and Severin,” said Aneke. “With both Boris and Severin, we ensure high quality in all tournament weeks, and that the coaches stay fresh and are inspired to help Holger as best as possible.

“It’s a huge boost to Holger. I know they are both very critical in relation to who they want to work with, and they both see great development potential in Holger.”

Rune will kick off his 2023 campaign at the Brisbane International, before heading over to the Australian Open, where Aneke stated Luthi will take charge
