Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was delighted with the impact of his substitutes after a tough three points earned against Everton
Jack Grealish was among the Manchester City players to earn praise from Pep Guardiola after a difficult win over Everton.
The Blues were frustrated at the Etihad for the first 70 minutes of their Premier League game before a brace from Erling Haaland earned them a tenth straight win in all competitions. Haaland lasted the distance for City, but it was the impact of the substitutes that Guardiola was taken with.
Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker both came off the bench in the second half to add an urgency to the side that had been missing, and Bernardo Silva and Grealish also came on to shore up the game. Guardiola was delighted with the changes and singled out Grealish after his time out of the team recently.
“Something the people cannot say, be positive, the body language, in the second half was much better. First half we were complaining, body language was not good, the chemistry between the players when they lose a ball has to be better.
“Second half we read the spaces better. The first half was not good, I would say Kyle and Kevin made an incredible contribution, Bernardo and Jack again – especially Jack to keep the ball.
“Well deserved and I like to win this type of games, suffering and knowing how difficult everything is. Nothing is for granted, the way they celebrated goals shows how difficult it was.”
