Jack Grealish has been ruled out of Sunday’s derby against Manchester United. The winger suffered a groin injury during City’s midweek win over Luton Town which has subsequently ruled him out of this weekend’s clash with Manchester United. Pep Guardiola also revealed that there isn’t a timeline set for the return of the England international.
Speaking before his team faces off against Manchester United Pep Guardiola provided an update on the condition of Jack Grealish. He also revealed that the winger is unlikely to feature for England later this month. Guardiola told the media: “He will not be fit for this weekend. When he will come back I don’t know. I need to speak with (England boss) Gareth (Southgate), I think he will not be fit. He has to recover well. He has had a setback, he has to recover well so we can use him as much as possible.”
Guardiola also told the media that the England international has the mentality to overcome the injury. Having gone off injured against FC Copenhagen Grealish was again injured in his comeback game against Luton Town. It is frustrating for the winger but he will be required this season. Guardiola said: “Yes, he doesn’t have an alternative. Setbacks in life are always there, it’s how you overcome them.”
With Jack Grealish ruled out of Sunday’s derby it does give another player an opportunity to impress in the left wing position against Manchester United. Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku or Oscar Bobb appear the ideal candidates to fill the role played by Grealish.
As for Grealish Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will be hoping he returns in form and sooner rather than later given his importance to the City set-up.
