Jannik Sinner (No. 3) gave a tennis masterclass to Daniil Medvedev (No. 4) with a score of 6-1, 6-2, securing his spot in the Miami Open final for the second consecutive year. The Italian was more consistent than his opponent and nearly unstoppable with his serve, setting up the title match with the chance to surpass Carlos Alcaraz as the world No. 2.
Sinner was dominant from start to finish, having no trouble neutralizing his opponent’s serve and being relentless in his own service games. He capitalized on Medvedev’s early inconsistencies and secured a break in the second game.
Sinner had to save two break points before taking another consecutive break, and in less than half an hour, he was already leading 5-0. Although Medvedev managed to secure his first service game, he had no chance of a comeback as Sinner closed out the set on his serve, winning it 6-1.
The second set followed a similar pattern as Sinner grabbed another break early on. When the world No. 3 was serving at 2-1, Medvedev wasted a break opportunity, and from there, Medvedev’s level dropped abruptly, committing a series of unforced errors that are unusual for a player of his caliber.
Sinner once again found himself leading 5-1, dominating from the baseline, and capitalized on Medvedev’s frustration to close out the match in just one hour and 9 minutes, winning 6-1, 6-2.
The 2024 Australian Open champion will play his third final in Miami, having fallen short in the title match in 2021 against Hubert Hurkacz and in 2023 against Medvedev. The title match will be against the winner between German Alexander Zverev (No. 5) and an inspired Grigor Dimitrov (No. 12).
