The Italian tennis player has reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open
Jannik Sinner reached the quarterfinals at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami for the fourth time in his career. Despite some difficulties, especially in the first set against Christopher O’Connell, the Italian tennis player was able to impose himself in straight sets, gaining access to the final where he will challenge the Czech Tomas Machac.
Compared to the amazing performances shown from the Australian Open up to the Indian Wells semi-final lost against Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik is not 100% physically fit, even considering all the efforts at the beginning of the season and the climatic conditions of Miami, but thanks to his talent and to mental strength, he managed to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
“It was a tough challenge, really very tough and I would say very different compared to previous challenges. I made several mistakes, I found myself down but I just tried to stay clear. I gave myself a few chances to break it, initially I didn’t succeed but then I did it.
I played trying to have the right mentality and this was the key. Regarding the incident with the physiotherapist, I immediately apologized because I had hit him in a delicate place for us boys,” explained Sinner in the post-maych interview.
Jannik Sinner won despite some troubles
In the quarterfinals Jannik will now have, as mentioned, a difficult challenge against the Czech Machac, who defeated Matteo Arnaldi.
For Sinner this is the nineteenth victory out of 20 seasonal challenges. Jannik has shown that he knows how to win even in difficult moments. It should also be highlighted that Jannik, during the match, helped a fan in the stands to recover after an illness, intervening by throwing a bottle and making sure everything was going well.
About the bottom half of the tournament, Daniil Medvedev’s 350th career victory could only arrive on the hard courts. The Russian defeated Dominik Koepfer with a score of 7-6(5) 6-0 and will meet Nicolas Jarry in the quarter-finals.
The Russian started the match well against the German but suddenly lost his way and made some unusual mistakes. Down 0-4 in the tie-break, Medvedev changed pace and forced Koepfer to always play one more shot.
A tactic that paid off and allowed the Russian to win seven of the last eight points. In the second set, Koepfer mentally exited the match and suffered a hard bagel. Jarry eliminated No.7 seed Casper Ruud with an important 7-6(3) , 6-3.
