The Italian tennis player was honored in his hometown
Jannik Sinner has returned to his hometown, Sesto Pusteria, in the county of Trentino Alto Adige, located in the far north of Italy, between the Alps. The Italian tennis player visited his fellow villagers, who celebrated him for the milestones he achieved in 2024. The latest of which is having conquered the throne of the ATP ranking, ousting Novak Djokovic.
“I am very happy to be here. My entire childhood was here in Sesto. When I was little I remember the days spent playing in the village with my friends. Furthermore, it makes me happy to be able to meet these young kids who grew up with me in a normal village. I want to help them dream,” said Jannik.
The mayor of Sesto Thomas Summerer praised Sinner for the feats achieved by the young Italian in this first part of the season.
“I’m very happy, we received our sample here. He is an extremely normal, simple boy. Just like in Indian Wells, he started holding umbrellas here for other people. When we need him, he’s always there and he’s a really great guy.
The golden book signed by Sinner? Inside it says that Jannik, who grew up in Sesto, came to visit us as the number one in the world,” he told.
Sinner’s home country honored him with a small party to pay homage to their champion. The Italian tennis player went to the Town Hall aboard a carriage to sign the municipality’s book of honour, accompanied by the mayor himself and the president of the province. This event, the only one, was open to the public to allow all citizens to attend and greet the home favorite. Only the rain ruined the day a little.
