Kyrgios reacts to Fritz and Rinderknech feuding at Wimbledon.
Nick Kyrgios absolutely loves the Taylor Fritz and Arthur Rindeknech feud as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist says tennis needs more of this. On Wednesday, Rinderknech completed his Wimbledon first-round win over Kei Nishikori.
And when addressing his second-round match against Fritz, the 76th-ranked Frenchman took a shot at the American and the complaints he was making during their 2023 French Open match. “The atmosphere will be quieter (than at Roland-Garros) and he won’t cry as much.
He whined a bit saying it was too noisy. I hold no grudge against him, but he was wrong if he thought the French crowd would send him kisses in between points,” Rinderknech said before the match. These comments quickly went viral so it wasn’t hard for Fritz to notice that his next opponent pretty much called him a crybaby and a whiner.
And their match was over and Fritz was the one who ended on the winning side, he wished Rinderknech at the net to “have a nice flight home.” Also, the cameras caught one moment where Fritz directly asked Rinderknech if he knew what he did before making it clear to the Frenchman that his reaction was a clear response to his pre-match comments.
Reacting to the Fritz and RInderknech drama, Kyrgios wrote on X: “This is what the sport needs… @Taylor_Fritz97 cheeky…”
What Fritz said about the Rinderknech drama after their match?
After sealing a 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-4 win over Rinderknech and progressing into the thrid round, Fritz said he felt disrespected by Rinderknech so he did what he did.
“He asked me what I said. I told him what I said. He told me he was in doubles still. I said, ‘Oh, congrats, good for you.’ Then he started acting like, ‘Why are you blah, blah, blah?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, you know what you said.
You know what you said. Don’t disrespect me before the match and then expect me to be all nice after the match. That’s not how it works,'” Fritz said. On Saturday, Fritz will be back on the court to take on Alejandro Tabilo.
