Luke Littler fell short of his third Euro Tour title of the season at the German Darts Championship last weekend. Small plaster on the wound, however, is that “The Nuke” did set his own record. For the second time this year, Littler threw a record 180 score at a Euro Tour event.
Littler began the German Darts Championship with a 6-0 win over Dylan Slevin. In this match, the 17-year-old dart player hit two 180s. The number of 180 scores per match went up rapidly after that. He threw five in his match against Ryan Searle (6-2) and in his quarterfinal against Damon Heta (6-5) Littler was responsible for six maximum scores.
In the semifinals against Daryl Gurney (7-2), Littler then reached no fewer than eight 180 scores. However, that number turned out to be quite a bit higher. He recorded ten 180s in the final against Peter Wright. Despite this barrage of 180s, Littler lost that final 8-5.
Littler thus managed to throw the highest possible score 31 times in his five matches, the highest number ever at a Euro Tour tournament. The old record was also held by the Englishman. Earlier this year at the Belgian Darts Open, Littler was good for thirty 180-scores. So that number has been improved by the smallest possible margin.
This coming weekend, Littler can take a shot at re-breaking the 180 record. The reigning junior world champion is among the competitors at the Flanders Darts Trophy, which takes place Sept. 6-8 in Antwerp.
