Latest Manchester City transfer news and rumours with fresh updates on Germany international Joshua Kimmich and the midfielder’s Bayern Munich future this summer

Joshua Kimmich continues being linked with Manchester City this summer as the Bayern Munich midfielder is days away from entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Kimmich, 29, has not extended his deal with the German giants since 2021 and can become a free agent this time next year. That predicament means Bayern must decide whether to cash in before this transfer window closes or risk losing the Germany international for nothing.

There is no shortage of suitors to capitalise on either situation. Pep Guardiola has admired Kimmich since giving the youngster his Bundesliga debut at Bayern in 2015.

SkySport reports that City are one of five clubs still in contention to sign the Bayern player, either this summer or not. Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are also named, as are Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Bayern are reportedly willing to sell the player should they receive a suitable offer. Talks will have to wait until after the European Championship, but both parties are said to be open to separating after Kimmich renewing his contract is considered unlikely.

Guardiola spoke highly of the player during their time together in Bavaria. “He’s got absolutely everything. He can do everything and he gives everything,” Guardiola once said after a match against Borussia Dortmund in March 2016.
