The young Russian rising star analyzed the match won against Aryna Sabalenka, in the on court interview with Mats Wilander
She is the youngest Slam semifinalist of the 21st century; Mirra Andreeva wrote a new page in tennis history, beating Aryna Sabalenka in three sets and qualifying for the last 4 of the Roland Garros. At the age of 17 year-old, the Russian became the youngest player to reach the semi-finals of a Major, since Martina Hingis did so in 1997 at the US Open. It must be said that Sabalenka suffered from severe stomach problems, which prevented her from competing at her best throughout the semifinal.
During the on-court interview, the young Russian analyzed the match and she talked about her next opponent, Jennifer Paolini. Talking about her match with Mats Wilander, Mirra explained how she didn’t even have a plan for the match, but that she needed her coach Conchita Martinez.
“I even forgot what was the score! I tried not to focus on that. When it was the 2nd match point for me I was trying to imagine saving a break point. I tried to be brave. I kind of see the match and I play wherever I want. I don’t even have a plan,” she said.
Wilander jokingly asked Andreeva – who had just started working with Conchita Martinez – if she no longer needed her new super coach.
“No, I still need her! She is giving me great support. Sometimes I can remember some little information! Having her by my side is an amazing advantage for me. I’m really happy that she still works with me,” she told.
Regarding the semifinal against the Italian, which will begin in a few hours, the young Russian explained: “I faced Paolini in Madrid. It was really tough mentally and from a game point of view. She plays very fast and moves very quickly. She tries. It doesn’t matter what the situation or the score is. It will be a bit like today. I will try to play at the same level and with the same coolness.”
