Paula Badosa has laid bare her thoughts on becoming a mother in the future. The Spaniard states that she will be excited whenever the time comes. The former World No. 2 also reveals that her younger sister Jana has had a role to play in shaping her views on motherhood.

Paula Badosa, currently in a romantic relationship with the Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, has never previously talked publicly about becoming a mother. Nor has Tsitsipas ever expressed any desire to one day start a family with the Spaniard. For the time being, it seems that the two are in love and wish their relationship to stay just as it is, as they focus primarily on progressing in their respective tennis careers.

However, in a recent interview with La Vanguardia, the 26-year-old has said that the thoughts of motherhood have been with her since her younger days. According to Badosa, these thoughts have become “internalized” due to the presence of her younger sister Jana.

“It (motherhood) has always been very important to me and I have had it in mind since I was little. I have always said that I would like to be a mother, obviously, I still have a long way to go, but it is something that I feel especially with my sister, who is 11 years younger than me and with whom I have always felt a very internalized maternal part,” Badosa told La Vanguardia.

Paula Badosa had talked about being a “second mom” to Jana last year in WTA-produced series

In 2023, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) collaborated with Morgan Stanley to produce six short videos on six different players competing on the WTA Tour. The videos were released on YouTube, with the third episode focusing on Paula Badosa.

During the episode, Badosa spoke candidly about being a “second mom” to Jana. The former World No. 2 also laid bare how much she feels protective about her sister and how she is helping Jana to complete a move to the USA for her higher studies.

“My younger sister, she’s 15 years old. Her name is Jana. We have a 10-year difference so I always felt that, of course, I’m her older sister but as I say, at the same time, I always felt like I had to like, be her second mom. I protect her so much, especially the role I’m playing right now with her right now, it’s financially, I’m helping her. Her dream was always to come here to the US, to study, to learn English. Her maturity is growing so fast thanks to that, so I’m very proud of her,” Badosa said (1:26).

On the tennis front, Paula Badosa last appeared at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the fourth round before losing to eventual semifinalist Donna Vekic. It is yet to be confirmed where she will play next.
