The Australian champion dedicated a splendid post to his Spanish colleague, forced to miss the Australian Open due to a new injury
Rafael Nadal announced a few hours ago his withdrawal from the upcoming Australian Open, due to a new hip and groin injury. His Australian colleague Nick Kyrgios, who has been out of action for a year now due to ongoing physical problems, wanted to express all his solidarity towards the Spanish champion.
The post on X from the 2022 Wimbledon finalist – who did not recover in time to take the court in the Melbourne Slam – moved all tennis fans. “Rafa, man, I feel for you.
Get well soon. This was also my fear: coming back too soon!” wrote Kyrgios.
Nadal’s new injury
A few hours after the defeat against Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane, Rafael Nadal announced that he will not take part in the Australian Open.
During the match with the Australian tennis player, the Spaniard asked for a medical time out in the third set due to an obvious muscle problem. The Spaniard tried to grit his teeth and finished the match on the pitch without retiring.
However, subsequent instrumental tests highlighted a muscle microlaceration. Nothing very serious, especially considering the injury that immediately ended his previous season, last year, but one more worry for Nadal. The 22-time Slam champion preferred to stop so as not to aggravate the situation and decided to recover 100% before returning again.
As written in the post published on his Instagram account, the goal is to present himself in the best possible conditions on clay and, in particular, at the Roland Garros.
