On Saturday, Djokovic lost to Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinal and remains without a title in 2024.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic acknowledges the 2024 season hasn’t been up to his standard but remains hopeful that he can turn the page in the upcoming weeks and finally win a title.
On Saturday, Djokovic’s Monte Carlo Masters campaign ended in the semifinal after yet another surprising defeat in 2024. This time, Djokovic was beaten by 10th-ranked Casper Ruud, who upset the world No. 1 6-4 1-6 6-4.
Now, Djokovic is 11-4 in 2024 and set to enter May without a title won this season.
Earlier this year, Djokovic was upset by Alex de Minaur during Serbia’s United Cup quarterfinal loss to Australia. Also, Djokovic was crushed by Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinal and also got stunned by Luca Nardi in the Indian Wells Masters third round.
Djokovic gives his verdict on his 2024 season
“Well, I mean, I’m used to really high standard in terms of expectations of the results, so not having a title is, maybe comparing to the last 15 years, not a great season at all,” Djokovic said.
“But I had semis of Australia, semis here. I only played three tournaments this year, so of course, you know, it’s normal to expect that you have some seasons where you don’t start well, and this is the one.
“Hopefully, yeah, I can pick up, in terms of results, I can build from here, because, you know, I played some good tennis. Hopefully in the next tournaments I’ll be able to play even better.”
On April 24th, the Madrid Masters is starting and there’s where Djokovic is slated to play his fifth tournament of the year. On the clay courts of Madrid, Djokovic has had success throughout his career as he is a three-time champion at the tournament – he made it all the way there in 2011, 2016 and 2019.
Considering his current situation, winning a fourth Madrid title this year would be absolutely massive for Djokovic.
