Djokovic got a win on Wednesday in Geneva and also received a birthday cake.
Novak Djokovic admitted his birthday would have probably been ruined with a Geneva loss but the world No. 1 avoided that scenario and ended up having a great birthday.
On Wednesday, Djokovic turned 37 and also made his debut on the clay courts of Geneva with a 6-3 6-3 win over Yannick Hanfmann.
After the match, the organizers surprised Djokovic with something they specially organized as the record 24-time Grand Slam champion was gifted with a birthday cake while the entire stadium sang happy birthday to him. Djokovic absolutely loved the entire situation and he ended up sharing the cake with ball kids and others on the court.
“That really touched me. I’m very happy to win on this special day. The key was the birthday. The birthday probably wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t win the match, but it’s nice to be here for the first time at this tournament, with my family coming here to support as well,”

Winning and getting a birthday cake wasn’t the only good thing that happened to Djokovic
This week, Djokovic is also being accompanied by his family in Geneva – something that he absolutely loves.
“I grew up with my aunt, uncle and two cousins for most of my life. We don’t get the chance to see each other that much lately, so it’s really nice. I’m getting some really quality time on the court, but also off the court,” Djokovic noted.
Also, Djokovic was thrilled that his Geneva campaign started with a win since he is desperate for something really positive heading into the French Open.
“The reason why I chose to come and play is because I feel like at this moment, there is no better practice for me than match play. It’s good for me, because that’s the way for me to try to find that kind of form that I need for Roland Garros,” Djokovic explained.
