Novak Djokovic Wins Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award

Novak Djokovic claimed three Major titles in 2023

Novak Djokovic secured the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year! Novak lifted the prestigious award for his stellar performance in 2023, securing his fifth Laureus honor and matching the record-holder Roger Federer.

Tom Brady presented Djokovic with the trophy in Madrid, and the Serb felt honored to receive the award from his sporting hero and a good friend. Established in 2000, the Laureus World Sports Award honors the most prominent athletes.

Roger Federer took charge in 2005, rattling off four awards and writing history books. Rafael Nadal earned the Laureus Award in 2011 after lifting three Major crowns in 2010, and Novak Djokovic joined the party in 2012 following a historic 2011.

Djokovic claimed two more awards in 2015 and 2016, with his fourth trophy coming in 2019, honoring his incredible comeback in the previous year.

Two years after Nadal’s award, a male tennis player holds the prestigious trophy again, with Djokovic leaving behind Mondo Duplantis, Erling Haaland, Noah Lyles, Lionel Messi and Max Verstappen. Novak turned 36 in 2023, but there was no one to stop him from reaching ultimate tennis glory.

The Serb claimed three Major titles from four finals, increasing his tally to 24 and leaving Rafael Nadal behind to terminate the GOAT race. Djokovic clinched his eighth year-end no. 1 honor, raising the bar and securing more records that will take some beating in the decades to come.
